With all of the cool technology available today, you may be inundated with choices. Instead of feeling overwhelmed, why not check out our guide to buying a smartwatch? If you’re wondering which smartwatch is right for you, it’s good to do some research before making a decision. After all, these devices aren’t cheap and you want to make sure you’re making the most informed decision. We’ve narrowed our focus today on two iOS smartwatches, so make sure you do more research if you don’t feel that any of these are the right technology for your needs.

Apple Watch

There has been a lot of hype about the Apple Watch, and for good reason. These little pieces of wearable technology are attractive, quick and full of features.

Here are some pros to consider:

  • Sleek design looks great on the wrist
  • Runs seamlessly with your Apple device
  • Many apps are available exclusively for the Apple Watch
  • Plenty of design options to choose from
  • Packed with features like Siri and health tracking
  • “Digital Touch” allows you to send friends or family your heartbeat, a message, or a sketch. **note, they must also own an Apple Watch to participate in this.**

As with all pieces of technology, there are cons to go along with the pros:

  • The battery life is not ideal — you’ll be charging every day
  • Privacy is a concern since the notifications are visible on your wrist
  • This watch is not waterproof — only “splash proof”
  • Does not feature sleep tracking
  • The price is pretty high, ranging from $349 for the sport version to $17k for the “Apple Watch Edition”

Withings Activité Pop

You may or may not have heard of this beautiful piece of wearable technology, but it should definitely be in the running if you’re looking for a smartwatch that is compatible with iOS. The Withings Activité Pop can also be used with Android devices.

Some pros of this wearable technology include:

  • The price is a huge plus. You can get one for $149.99
  • The battery life is amazing – wear it for up to eight months on a single charge
  • Seamless activity and sleep tracking
  • The design is stunning – its traditional look mixes with its modern abilities to create a cool piece of wearable tech that doesn’t stand out as being a piece of wearable tech.
  • If the three main color offerings aren’t enough, you can purchase additional bands so you can wear it with any outfit.
  • Healthmate app is a great companion for tracking your stats

Again, with every set of pros comes a list of cons:

  • As of now, background syncing is not available
  • Healthmate app works best after purchasing additional Withings products (scale, blood pressure monitor)
  • Activity tracking is limited to walking, jogging and running
  • Not as robust in features as the Apple Watch
  • Because the wearable is wrist-based, some of the tracking is inaccurate
    • Steps can be wildly inaccurate if you do a lot of gesturing or clapping along to music
    • Activities such as cycling or other stationary modes of exercise aren’t really accounted for in the tracking.

If you’re in the market for a new smartwatch that is compatible with your iOS device, we hope you found this guide to be helpful. Check back for information regarding smartwatches compatible with Android devices.
